On our last night in Beijing, we made a quick stop at the Night Market just for the experience. I refrained from trying any of the available delicacies…maybe next time I will be more adventurous.
Edible, adj.: Good to eat, and wholesome to digest, as a worm to a toad, a toad to a snake, a snake to a pig, a pig to a man, and a man to a worm. ~Ambrose Bierce
I am usually not a very adventurous eater, but once, on an entomology field trip (back when I was attending the University of Washington), I did eat a live beetle larva because my professor dared me too. He dug it out of the tree for me. I bit the head off (because the thought of it using its pinchers to bite my tongue freaked me out). It tasted like liquid sawdust. My professor noted that at least I would now be able to survive when/if I get lost in the forest. That was a good lesson because I learned to always pack plenty of food when hiking so that I will never need to eat beetle larvae again.
What is the most unusual thing that you have ever eaten?
